Role Overview:

You will take the lead on the Hybrid Navy Software System Design workstream, ensuring the solutions developed align perfectly with the Product Owner’s vision and capability requirements. This role demands technical leadership in defining system requirements and high-level software designs, guiding development teams to deliver solutions that are secure, reliable, and certifiable, meeting stringent safety, quality, and performance standards.

Core Duties:

• Provide technical leadership to the software system design team, establishing the technical direction and facilitating effective team delivery.
• Ensure alignment of solutions with the product vision through the definition, interpretation, and management of product and system requirements.
• Lead the development of high-level system and software designs, making and documenting key technical and architectural decisions.
• Produce and maintain essential software design artefacts, including requirements analysis, system specifications, and internal/external interface definitions.
• Identify and manage technical risks, ensuring requirements are appropriately validated, approved, and delivered to achieve successful project outcomes.

Essential Skills and Experience:

• Extensive experience as an engineer with broad and deep expertise in systems engineering, ideally gained within an engineering or defence-related industry.
• Proven knowledge of software engineering approaches, processes, and procedures, including practical experience with Agile methodologies.
• Demonstrate significant breadth and diversity of software engineering experience across various projects or products.
• Experience in software engineering within a systems context is essential.
• Understanding of business processes and the business environment, with the ability to extend the knowledge base and provide specialist technical advice and guidance.

The Combat Systems Team:

This role offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative, team-based environment with hybrid, cross-site working on cutting-edge technologies and innovative working methods. You will gain valuable exposure to new projects and contribute to advancements in Royal Navy Systems. This is a highly visible position, involving demanding use of software developed for deployment within a Naval Ship environment.
