Principal Engineer – Prototype Lead (System Integration, Verification and Validation)

About the Role:

Join BAE Systems as a Principal Engineer focusing on Prototype System Integration, Verification and Validation (IV&V). You will play a crucial role in establishing the SSNA programme requirements for the Prototyping PCS IV&V capability. This involves collaborating with stakeholders, learning from past submarine programmes, and implementing infrastructure for SSN AUKUS prototyping.

Key Responsibilities:

• Establish the SSNA programme requirements for the Prototyping PCS IV&V capability by collaborating with relevant stakeholders and incorporating lessons learned from other submarine programmes.
• Oversee the procurement, development, and integration of Plant models, integrated hosted functionality models, and System Prototypes within the Platform Complex System domain.
• Lead the identification of necessary capabilities, toolsets, and methodologies required to deliver Prototyping for Platform Complex Systems.
• Lead the management and procurement of individual IV&V toolsets and Rig capabilities, including Model in the Loop and Hardware in the Loop, to support the establishment of programme infrastructure.
• Define the methodology for conducting IV&V on Prototypes and establishing how evidence will be produced.
• Carry out Prototype Make/Buy decisions for Prototypes and Plant models.
• Manage the development and integration of Plant Models.

Essential Skills and Experience:

• BEng (Hons) / MEng degree or equivalent experience in an engineering discipline or Systems Engineering.
• Knowledge and expertise in Functional Modelling toolsets, such as MATLAB Simulink, applicable to a Prototyping environment.
• In-depth understanding of Systems Engineering IV&V processes and practices within the defence, maritime, or closely related industries, recognizing the context of their work within the broader business.
• Demonstrated understanding of the full engineering lifecycle, from requirements development and verification through to integration and validation.
• Experience in setting up common infrastructure for large-scale projects.

The SSNA – Platform Complex Systems Team (PCS IV&V) is a dynamic and growing engineering function responsible for delivering IV&V and system integration across the SSNA Platform Complex Systems programme.
