Principal Combat Systems Engineer
Join BAE Systems and become a pivotal member of the Warship Technical Authority (WTA), contributing to the advancement of naval engineering. You will provide essential engineering support to a variety of programmes and projects within Warship Support, encompassing Royal Navy surface ship contracts, international naval support, and consultancy activities.
As a Principal Combat Systems Engineer, your role will be to support the delivery of core WTA service elements. These include Design Change Management, Platform Technical Assurance, Material State Management, Obsolescence Management, Specialist Engineering Support, and Future Support and Transformation Planning.
This is a significant opportunity for a senior engineer to contribute to the integration and assurance of sophisticated Combat Systems across both Royal Navy and international naval platforms. While experience, knowledge, or a strong technical interest in Sonar Systems would be particularly advantageous, applications are encouraged from candidates with comprehensive Combat Systems engineering backgrounds.
Core Duties:
- Provide Combat Systems engineering support across naval platforms, international programmes, and multidisciplinary projects.
- Maintain Combat Systems design integrity, ensuring effective integration across platforms, programmes, and engineering disciplines.
- Support the implementation of design changes, configuration control, and the safe integration of complex Combat Systems.
- Conduct investigations, impact assessments, and integration analyses involving sensors, weapons, communications, networks, and CMS.
- Develop and present technical evidence to support safety cases, certification, and customer approvals.
- Collaborate effectively with the MOD, customers, OEMs, and project teams, serving as a trusted technical point of contact.
Essential Skills:
- Strong knowledge of Combat Systems architectures on UK and international naval platforms.
- Understanding of maritime and defence standards, assurance processes, and governance frameworks.
- Ability to quickly integrate into teams and deliver high-quality engineering outputs.
- Proficiency in Combat Systems analysis, integration, troubleshooting, and complex issue resolution.
- Confident stakeholder engagement skills with the MOD, international navies, industry partners, and OEMs.
- Degree qualification and/or equivalent experience in Systems/Combat Systems/Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, with a commitment to working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
