About the Role
As a Senior Product Safety Engineer at BAE Systems, you will be integral to the safety assurance of cutting-edge defence systems. You will be responsible for creating and assessing critical safety engineering documentation, providing essential support to aircraft and flight systems teams, as well as various other engineering disciplines.
You will engage with Mission System logical domain teams across the programme, who are at the forefront of innovative design implementation and associated safety engineering practices.
Core Duties
- Perform detailed safety assessment work in compliance with established GCAP safety procedures.
- Provide comprehensive safety engineering support to the Mission System domain at all levels of system design.
- Offer technical expertise, support, and potentially lead in the following activities for Mission Systems as part of a multi-functional engineering team:
- Generation and review of detailed Fault Tree Analyses (FTAs).
- Conducting System Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs).
- Review safety-related artefacts to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
- Provide expert guidance on the implementation of safety requirements, safety objectives, and relevant hardware and software safety standards.
- Participate in multi-national safety working groups at all design levels.
Mission Systems Delivery Team (MSDT)
You will be joining the Mission Systems Delivery Team (MSDT), contributing to the Concepting and Assessment Phase of the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) programme. The team employs agile work planning processes to develop mission system concept options, architectures, and designs for components of a future combat air system. This vacancy is for a Senior Product Safety Engineer within the Mission System Product Safety Team, focusing on the next-generation FCAS Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP).
Essential Skills and Experience
- A degree or equivalent experience in a STEM-related discipline.
- Proven experience in performing Hazard analysis and/or risk safety assessments.
- A solid understanding of the software development environment and the design principles of complex electronic hardware.
- A general understanding of ARP4754, ARP4761, DO-254, and DO-178 is desirable.
