Core Duties:

• Conduct on-board ship trials and surveys, effectively communicating with various departments, Design Services disciplines, customers, and suppliers.
• Carry out technical investigations into operational problems or developments, and develop and prepare solutions, working both individually and as part of a team.
• Support the development of best practices to enhance the capability and performance of tools and processes.
• Produce technical drawing guidance packages, detail parts lists, and inventories using AutoCAD/Inventor design software.
• Represent the Mechanical/Piping team at various project design reviews for your assigned tasks or support colleagues on other platform tasks.
• Utilise various internal and external customer-driven databases to source necessary information.

Essential Skills:

• Proficiency in AutoCAD/Inventor (2D/3D, AutoDesk, Foran) design, demonstrated through the production of detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings.
• Understanding of detailed system and technical engineering drawings, including manufacturing drawings, with knowledge of projection layouts, scaling, and tolerancing. This includes familiarity with ship system engineering drawings (P&IDs, diagrammatics, piping isometrics) and ship systems materials and equipment symbols.
• Knowledge of marine piping and mechanical ship systems, encompassing pipe sizing, flow and pressure loss calculations. Experience applying marine ship standards and governance across vessel build and in-service environments is required.
• Familiarity with Mechanical manufacturing processes.

The Design Services Team:

Located within Portsmouth Naval Base, the Design Services Team is BAE Systems Maritime's 'in-service' technical support cell. We employ approximately 180 personnel across multiple disciplines including Mechanical, Electrical & Combat Systems (ECS), Structures/Outfit (S&O), and HVAC. Our team creates modification design packages and reports for the installation and integration of legacy warships. Working alongside our Safety section and Naval Architects, we comprise a diverse group with varied engineering, educational backgrounds, and experience.
