Role Overview

The Boats New Build Project Engineering Manager will lead and manage the design, development, and delivery of new-build projects, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, classification society standards, and programme objectives. Initially, you will lead the engineering aspects of our bid for the UK MOD's new Littoral Strike Craft (LSC).

This role is responsible for overseeing engineering activities throughout the product lifecycle, leading design reviews (PDR/CDR), managing engineering resources and subcontractors, and acting as the primary interface with classification societies such as Lloyd’s Register and DNV. The position also includes team leadership, stakeholder engagement, project reporting, and supporting future bids and business growth activities.

Core Duties:

• Lead and own all aspects of the Littoral Strike Craft design, ensuring engineering solutions meet customer, regulatory, and programme requirements.
• Manage and guide multidisciplinary engineering teams through design development, reviews, and product maturity milestones, including PDR and CDR.
• Act as the primary interface with Classification Societies (e.g., Lloyd’s Register, DNV), managing approvals, submissions, and compliance activities.
• Support programme delivery through engineering planning, resource management, risk mitigation, reporting, cost forecasting, and bid/BOE preparation.
• Lead subcontractor engagement, including make/buy decisions, statement of work development, and performance management.
• Recruit, develop, and manage engineering resources, ensuring effective task allocation, capability development, and delivery of project objectives.

Essential Skills and Experience:

• Strong engineering leadership experience delivering multi-layered maritime, naval, defence, or new-build engineering programmes.
• Knowledge of marine classification rules and approval processes, including experience working with Classification Societies.
• Proven ability to lead design reviews, systems integration activities, and product lifecycle management from concept through detailed design.
• Experience managing engineering teams, suppliers, and stakeholders across multiple disciplines and locations.
• Working knowledge of engineering design and analysis tools such as NX, Maxsurf, or equivalent, with the ability to guide technical teams effectively.
• Is a Chartered Engineer or possesses the competency to achieve Chartership in the short term.
