// Role Specification

Internship Opportunity: Advanced Simulation for Rear Fuselage and Empennage (RFE)

Airbus is offering a unique internship (curricular practicum) program in Spain, designed for students in their final year of a degree. This program is an excellent opportunity to acquire professional skills by developing a project within the company, culminating in your Bachelor’s Degree Final Project (TFG).

Mission

Prepare a final year training project that will allow you to complete your official studies.

About the Practical Training

  • Duration: 6 months of curricular practicum internships at AIRBUS, from February to July 2027.
  • Schedule: Part-time, 5 hours per day, 25 hours per week (8:00 AM - 1:00 PM).
  • Support: You will be assigned a tutor for continuous monitoring and guidance.

Final Project (TFG) Focus

You will join the Advanced Simulation for Rear Fuselage and Empennage (RFE) team. This team is responsible for advanced structural simulations and contributing to the automation of structural processes and methods for Airbus commercial aircraft. This role offers a chance to deepen your understanding of airframe structural design solutions and gain awareness of current and future trends in aeronautical structures.

Project Tasks May Include:

  • Development of new advanced methodologies for structural analysis.
  • Virtual Testing simulation capabilities development.
  • Novelty structural justification processes.
  • Structural justification of real airframe designs (composite and metal).
  • Enhancing Anisotropic Constitutive Modeling for Ductile Metallic Failure: Improving Calibration, Response, and Verification from Coupon to Component Level.

Project Development Stages:

  1. Introduction and Motivation: Technical description of the problem and its industrial context.
  2. Study of Potential Solutions and Selection: Review of literature, theories, and team tools to select the most suitable solution.
  3. Development of the Selected Solution: Theoretical and technical development, coding, and implementation using FEM simulations (e.g., ABAQUS).
  4. Verification and Validation: Verification of implementation and validation through correlation with structural tests (coupon and subcomponent level).
  5. Use Case: Application to a real structure, virtual testing, and correlation with experimental results.
  6. Conclusions and Future Developments: Summarize findings and outline future research directions.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Currently studying for a Degree in Aerospace Engineering.
  • English: Minimum level B2 (C1 desirable).
  • Spanish: Minimum level B1.
  • General knowledge in structural analysis and continuum solid mechanics.
  • Advantageous Skills: Programming (Fortran, Python, Matlab), FEM modelling and postprocessing.
  • Basic knowledge of Python and FORTRAN programming is recommended.
  • Basic knowledge of finite element simulation (FEM), particularly in ABAQUS, is also advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent team spirit and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in an international environment.

Why Apply?

  • Foster your professional development with a strong academic background and hands-on collaboration in Airbus projects.
  • Expand your network within the aeronautical industry.
  • Join a passionate and determined team working to make the world more connected, safer, and smarter.
  • Be part of a diverse and collaborative culture that drives extraordinary achievements.

This role requires an awareness of potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity. Airbus is committed to achieving workforce diversity and creating an inclusive environment. We welcome all applications irrespective of background.
