About the Programme
At Babcock, Systems Engineering is fundamental to the success of complex projects. As a Graduate Systems Engineer, you will be integral to the UK's most advanced engineering programmes, applying systems principles to ensure all components, processes, and stakeholders align for safe, effective, and sustainable solutions.
Your work will have a significant impact, potentially involving the design and integration of cutting-edge submarines, the conversion of military vehicles, refurbishment of naval ships, development of infrastructure for nuclear submarine refits, creation of secure satellite communication systems, or advancement of next-generation nuclear power plants.
You will support various stages of the engineering lifecycle, from innovation and concept design through to production, commissioning, in-service support, and decommissioning. Your responsibilities will include defining requirements, managing interfaces, and supporting integration across multidisciplinary teams, building skills in stakeholder engagement, risk mitigation, and ensuring systems meet real-world requirements.
Programme Structure
The two-year programme features placements that rotate every three to six months, offering exposure to a wide array of projects and teams. These rotations are designed to broaden your experience, with potential opportunities to work in different locations, helping you build your professional network and understand the business operations.
You will collaborate with experienced professionals across disciplines such as engineering design, software, mechanical, construction, and electrical engineering, as well as project management, quality assurance, and supply chain. This will build a strong foundation in systems engineering, allowing you to gradually take on more responsibility, including leading small teams and overseeing projects. You can align placements with your interests and career goals.
Development and Support
From day one, you will receive structured support, personalised training, and dedicated mentorship. You will join the Graduate Development Programme, which includes expert-led masterclasses covering communication, personal branding, resilience, and wellbeing.
Babcock supports your journey toward Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, offering guidance and covering all associated fees.
Career Progression
Upon completing the programme, you will transition into a permanent role within the Engineering Function, continuing to apply and expand your developed skills. You will also have the opportunity to progress towards professional registration, a recognised benchmark of engineering competence, supporting your advancement into roles such as Senior Engineer.

What You Need to Apply
You must have achieved, or be on track to achieve, a BEng, MEng, BSc, or MSc in a STEM discipline. Applications are welcomed from a range of subjects including Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and emerging technology fields like AI, Machine Learning, Robotics, and Cybernetics.
Eligibility for certain programmes may be affected by Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions related to your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency. For this programme, you must be able to achieve and maintain Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) security clearance.
Location
This programme is based in Rosyth, Scotland. The Rosyth facility is a large, waterside manufacturing and repair site where you could be involved in the full lifecycle of naval vessels or large-scale marine build projects.
Agile working is offered, but you can expect to spend several days a week on-site. You must be able to reliably commute to the site or relocate before your start date. While your primary location will be Rosyth, placements at other UK sites are possible, and flexibility is encouraged.
