About the Programme
At Babcock, Systems Engineering is fundamental to the success of complex projects. As a Graduate Systems Engineer, you will be instrumental in some of the UK's most advanced engineering programmes. You will apply systems principles to ensure seamless alignment of all components, processes, and stakeholders, delivering safe, effective, and sustainable solutions.
Your work will have a significant impact, potentially involving the design and integration of cutting-edge submarines, conversion of military vehicles, refurbishment of naval ships, development of secure satellite communication systems, or advancing next-generation nuclear power plants. You will support various stages of the engineering lifecycle, from concept design to decommissioning, bringing structure to complexity by defining requirements, managing interfaces, and supporting integration across multidisciplinary teams. Through practical experience and structured development, you will build skills in stakeholder engagement, risk mitigation, and ensuring systems meet real-world requirements.
Programme Structure
The two-year programme features rotations in placements every three to six months, offering broad exposure to projects and teams, and potentially different locations. This structure helps you build your professional network and deepen your understanding of the business.

From day one, you will receive structured support, personalised training, and dedicated mentorship. You will join the Graduate Development Programme, featuring expert-led masterclasses on essential professional skills. Guidance and associated fees for Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status will be provided.

Upon successful completion of the programme, you will transition into a permanent role within the Engineering Function. You will have opportunities to continue developing your skills, build towards professional registration, and potentially advance into roles such as Senior Engineer. What You Need to Apply
You should have achieved, or be on track to achieve, a BEng, MEng, BSc, or MSc in a STEM discipline. Applications are welcomed from a broad range of subjects including Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and emerging technology fields such as AI, Machine Learning, Robotics, and Cybernetics.
Security Clearance: This programme requires the ability to achieve and maintain Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) security clearance. Nationality, citizenship, or residency may impact eligibility due to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
Location
This programme is available in Bristol (Ashton House and Babcock Technology Centre) or Devonport in Plymouth. Agile working is supported, with an expectation of working on-site multiple times a week. Placements at different UK sites are possible, with flexibility and openness to relocation encouraged.
