Study Engineer - GenAI & Agentic AI (KI) (d/f/m)
Airbus Defence and Space is seeking a Study Engineer specializing in Generative AI & Agentic AI to join the "Operational Analysis and Studies" department in Friedrichshafen. You will contribute to the development of military simulation environments used for analysis and AI training, applying Machine Learning/Deep Learning for autonomous planning and decision-making in complex military scenarios.
This role involves transferring academic research findings to real-world systems within an agile study department. You will work on fascinating study and research projects for the Bundeswehr, NATO, and the European Union in the security and defence sector. Location
You will be based at the Airbus site in Immenstaad am Bodensee, a hub for Connected Intelligence, Space, and Air Power innovation. The campus fosters collaboration among experts in satellite technology, military aviation, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, and Combat Cloud & Ground Support. Work in dynamic, agile teams addressing complex challenges from AI-powered Earth observation to secure cloud architecture.
Your Responsibilities:
- Technical leadership in the development and testing of AI approaches for autonomous planning and decision-making in military environments.
- Responsibility for the successful execution of study projects within time, cost, and quality constraints, leading a small study team.
- Preparation and delivery of customer presentations and meetings.
- Creation of software architectures and Agentic AI frameworks on modern container/Kubernetes environments and distributed systems.
- Leading technical discussions with other departments and project partners (industry, research institutes).
- Technical proposal management for studies/projects (scope, time, costs).
- Practical implementation and testing in cooperation with other departments and industrial/scientific partners (universities, Fraunhofer Society).
Required Qualifications:
- Completed degree (Diplom/Master) or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and/or Simulation.
- Good practical programming experience in Python and relevant single- and multi-agent systems.
- Solid experience in simulation development / game engines with Python and/or C++ (or equivalent) is advantageous.
- Ideally, good practical experience in software engineering (including creating software architectures).
- Practical experience with container/Kubernetes/Docker environments and distributed systems (e.g., Ray).
- Proficient use of CI/CD environments such as GitHub/Gitlab, PyCharm, Visual Studio, etc. (ideally on Windows and Linux).
- Solid experience in agile technical leadership of project teams; good knowledge of the Atlassian Toolstack (JIRA, Confluence) is beneficial.
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally.
- Fluent German and English language skills.
