About the Role
Are you a Systems Engineer passionate about contributing to the UK's Defence Industry and making a tangible impact? Leonardo is seeking a Systems Engineer to explore and advance the design of airborne networks. This role involves researching, proposing, and analysing simulation results to develop standardisation proposals for networking technologies.
Your Impact
As a Systems Engineer at Leonardo, you will play a crucial role in integrating diverse engineering and technology strands into high-performance systems. You will act as a bridge, transforming theoretical concepts into practical, implementable solutions.
Typical Activities Include:
- Conducting research into meshed, ad-hoc, and other advanced network technologies.
- Designing and documenting proposed protocols for the standardisation of networking technologies.
- Proposing and designing simulations and models for potential networking technologies, presenting findings to colleagues and international partners.
- Implementing simulations, analysing their outcomes, and documenting the results.
- Providing regular progress reports to the Project Engineering Lead (PEL) and other Integrated Project Team (IPT) members.
What You'll Bring
Essential for this role is proven experience as a Systems Engineer in a professional setting or significant academic research experience. An engineering or science-based Honours degree or equivalent experience is highly desirable.
Required Skills and Experience:
- A relevant degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar field.
- Knowledge of system engineering principles and model-based systems engineering (MBSE).
- Understanding of networking fundamentals, including network protocols, routing algorithms, and their applications.
- Experience with wireless communication technologies.
- Proficiency in software engineering techniques, such as Python or C++ programming.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate technical ideas to diverse audiences.
- The capability to design meaningful simulations and interpret their results effectively.
Optional Skills:
- Knowledge of Protocol Design and Algorithm Design.
- Familiarity with ad-hoc networking, specifically in the FANETs sub-domain.
- Experience with common network simulation tools like ns-3.
- Matlab experience, potentially including Simulink.
