The Role: Senior Safety Engineer
As a Senior Safety Engineer, you will be instrumental in leading the development and delivery of the Safety Case, which underpins Design Certification or Safety of Flight declarations (Permit to Fly).
Your Responsibilities
Your day-to-day activities will involve managing the safety programme. This includes supporting project bid activities, leading hazard identification efforts, and generating and managing programme safety plans for a variety of applications such as Aircraft Modification, commercial equipment, test instrumentation integration, and ground support equipment tasks.
Key responsibilities include:
- Technically leading project safety activities, including hazard identification, risk analysis, and management.
- Preparing safety and risk management documentation necessary for certification or Safety of Flight (Permit to Fly - PtF) activities.
- Establishing the safety and risk management philosophy to meet all customer, technical, environmental, operational, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Interpreting and aligning requirements and regulatory constraints to support safety and risk management objectives.
- Maintaining a hazards and controls register.
Essential Experience
To excel in this role, you will need:
- Proven experience in technical report writing, specifically for Safety Case reporting and advice.
- Expertise in safety requirement generation and management.
- A solid understanding of Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), with the ability to interrogate and review FTA to support safety arguments.
- Good knowledge and understanding of the Regulatory and Governance aspects of the design process.
- Familiarity with the selection of appropriate safety engineering tools for different project lifecycle stages.
- Understanding of statistical approaches to Safety.
Essential Qualifications
A Master’s degree in safety or aviation-related disciplines, or equivalent experience (such as HNC/HND or equivalent level of knowledge), is required.

Working at Boscombe Down
This role is based at our Boscombe Down site, a unique facility featuring the UK's longest military runway. We specialise in testing, evaluation, and support services for aviation and aerospace systems, playing a vital role in the UK's aviation defence by enhancing operational readiness and effectiveness.
Working Hours & Location: 37 hours per week, with a minimum average site attendance of three to four days per week. Flexible working and compressed hours are available.
Security Clearance
Applicants for this role must be eligible for SC clearance as a minimum.
