The Role
As a Senior Electronics Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating the maintenance, development, testing, and deployment of electronic systems critical to BUTEC's maritime range instrumentation, underwater tracking, communications, and data acquisition capabilities. This role blends hands-on technical expertise with leadership, ensuring engineering activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and meet operational requirements.
Day-to-day, you will supervise a team of engineers and technicians, provide technical guidance, oversee project delivery, and ensure the continued reliability and availability of crucial range assets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Supervision: Lead, mentor, and supervise Electronics Engineers and Electronic Technicians.
- Engineering & Technical Support: Provide technical expertise for electronic systems associated with maritime instrumentation, communications, telemetry, tracking, and data acquisition systems.
- Project Management: Plan and manage engineering projects from concept through to implementation.
- Operational Support: Provide engineering support to range operations and trials as required.
- Quality, Safety & Compliance: Ensure compliance with company policies, health and safety legislation, and engineering standards.
Essential Experience:
- Significant experience in electronics engineering within a defence, maritime, industrial, telecommunications, or similar technical environment.
- Proven experience supervising engineering teams and managing technical work programmes.
- Strong knowledge of electronic test equipment, fault-finding techniques, and system integration.
- Experience producing technical documentation, reports, and engineering procedures.
- Experience with underwater instrumentation, sonar systems, RF communications, telemetry, or data acquisition systems.
Essential Qualifications:
- Knowledge of networked electronic systems and industrial control systems.

This is a full-time, onsite role working 37 hours per week across the BUTEC sites in Kyle of Lochalsh and Applecross.
About BUTEC:
BUTEC (British Underwater Test & Evaluation Centre) is a specialised facility dedicated to underwater testing and evaluation. It supports the development and assessment of various maritime systems, including submarines, autonomous underwater vehicles, and naval munitions, driving advancements in sonar, navigation, and communication systems in real-world scenarios.
