About the Role
As a Senior Data Scientist at Babcock, based in Stoke Gifford, Bristol, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of data-driven decision-making within UK Defence. This is an out-of-the-ordinary opportunity to lead innovative software development, modelling, and analytics projects that support one of the UK's most important defence programmes. You will be at the heart of strategic submarine maintenance and disposal planning for the Royal Navy, utilising advanced analytics and Python-based solutions to inform critical business and operational decisions.
Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Lead and motivate a high-performing team to deliver software development and analytics services aligned with programme requirements.
- Prioritise and coordinate analytics and software workloads, ensuring effective resource allocation and responsiveness to changing customer needs.
- Develop high-quality Python-based software, modelling, and analytical solutions using best practice development methodologies.
- Design innovative optimisation, modelling, and algorithmic capabilities to support strategic planning and executive decision-making.
- Collaborate effectively with stakeholders and analytics teams to provide meaningful insights, data visualisation, and robust analytical products.
Essential Experience
- Experience developing and delivering analytical solutions using Python.
- Proven experience leading or managing small teams of data analysts and/or software developers.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences.
- Experience working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders and balancing changing priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power BI for analysis and data visualisation.
Qualifications
- A Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computing, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who can achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
