About the Role: Systems Engineering Internship
Airbus is seeking undergraduate interns to join our Systems Engineering team in Filton, Bristol. This department is responsible for creating the technical information required for the production of Service Bulletins, which implement improvements and upgrades to aircraft. In the UK, a significant focus is placed on Landing Gear Systems and Wing Structure, with opportunities to also gain exposure to fuselage and various wet/dry systems.
Systems Engineering is a dynamic and evolving field within Customer Services, constantly adapting to new tools and working methods, with an increasing emphasis on societal and environmental responsibilities. We are a key interface between the Design Office and our airline customers, operating as a small, agile team that leverages a larger network and extended organization.
Our teams are distributed globally, including sites in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, India, and the USA, making transnational collaboration a daily aspect of our work. The Service Bulletins we produce cover both Standard (applicable to all aircraft in a family) and Upgrade (customer-requested) scenarios. Our UK responsibilities encompass most Landing Gear, Wing, and Fuel topics for all Airbus Commercial aircraft.
What You Will Be Doing:
As an intern, you will work within an experienced and collaborative team, supporting in-service aircraft activities and collaborating with colleagues across the wider business. You will be expected to contribute to the development of optimal solutions, take ownership of smaller projects, and support ongoing activities. You will also become part of an early careers community designed to support your professional development.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Identifying installation drawings and design solutions.
- Conducting feasibility analysis.
- Engaging in configuration management.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, including process enhancements.
- Facilitating knowledge capture.
- Participating in quality and problem-solving activities.
- Exploring future ways of working, such as new integrated tools.
The team will provide a challenging, exciting, and rewarding experience, offering learning opportunities in both aircraft-specific knowledge (for UK topics) and broader areas like methods and processes. You will gain experience and training on a variety of toolsets, from bespoke Airbus tools to industry-standard engineering and management software.
Requirements:
This placement is open exclusively to Undergraduates. It is mandatory for candidates to be enrolled as an undergraduate for the entire duration of the placement. Please indicate your graduation date on your application.

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
- Currently studying towards a degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or an equivalent field.
- An inquisitive and analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
- A genuine interest in the topics and the aerospace industry.
- Willingness to learn and develop a range of skills, including technical, project management, communication, reporting, and rigour.
- A capacity to learn from mistakes and channel feedback into personal development.
- The ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
Nice to have:
- Knowledge in Computer-Aided Design (e.g., CATIA) or modelling tools (such as ADAMS, Matlab Simulink, Fluent).
- Awareness of programming languages, with a willingness to run scripts.
Security Clearance:
You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. Depending on the specific role, you may also be required to obtain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control clearance.
