Embark on a dynamic two-year graduate programme focused on Project Controls, where you'll play a crucial role in keeping vital defence programmes on schedule, within budget, and successfully meeting their objectives. As a key member of the Project Controls team, you will provide essential analysis and forecasting that empowers teams to understand performance, effectively manage risks, and plan with precision. You will gain invaluable experience in leveraging schedule, cost, risk, and performance data to ensure the successful delivery of complex projects.

Working collaboratively within integrated project teams, your responsibilities will include developing and maintaining project schedules, monitoring costs and progress, assessing risks and opportunities, analysing project data, and producing insightful forecasts and reports to support robust governance and decision-making.

Programme Structure

Over the course of two years, this programme is designed to build a strong foundation in Project Controls. You will develop a deep understanding of the processes, tools, and techniques essential for delivering complex projects. The programme features a series of placements, each lasting up to six months, offering exposure to diverse disciplines such as Planning & Scheduling, Cost Management, Risk & Opportunity Management, Project Reporting, and Governance & Assurance. These rotations provide practical application of your learning on live projects across the entire project lifecycle. As you progress, you will be entrusted with increasing responsibility, cultivating the technical, commercial, and analytical skills necessary for a successful career in Project Controls and aligning with your long-term career aspirations.

From your first day, you will benefit from structured support, personalised training, and dedicated mentorship designed to help you excel throughout the programme and beyond. You will join our comprehensive Graduate Development Programme, which includes expert-led masterclasses covering crucial areas like communication, personal branding, resilience, and wellbeing. In addition, you will receive targeted technical training in core Project Controls methodologies and tools, with a focus on planning and scheduling, forecasting, risk management, and performance reporting. Regular feedback and support towards professional accreditation will be provided to help you apply your learning in practice, enhance your expertise, and accelerate your development as a Project Controls professional.

Post-Programme Opportunities

Upon successful completion of the programme, you will have the opportunity to transition into a permanent role within our Project Controls discipline. You will have the flexibility to develop as a well-rounded Project Controls professional or to specialise in a specific area such as Planning, Cost Control, or Risk Management. Your development journey will continue with support to grow into more senior roles and assume greater responsibility. To apply, you must have achieved, or be on track to achieve, a degree in one of the following subjects: Risk Management, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Finance, Economics, Project Management, Data Science, Maths, Statistics, Business Management, Information/IT Management, Sciences, or Engineering. For this specific programme, you must be able to achieve and maintain Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) security clearance. Location and Role Context

This Project Controls programme for September 2027 is based at HM Naval Base Clyde in Scotland. Babcock’s operations at HM Naval Base Clyde provide highly specialised engineering support services, including the management of critical infrastructure and nuclear facilities. We also deliver operational maintenance, upgrades, and repairs for Royal Navy vessels, including the Vanguard and Astute-class submarines. Within this location, you will have the opportunity to support a diverse range of programmes and projects, from infrastructure and facilities upgrades to submarine maintenance, sustainment, and capability enhancement activities. Working within a highly regulated environment, you will gain exposure to projects that are vital to supporting the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet and the UK’s defence capability. Agile working is offered, providing some flexibility, but you can expect to spend several days a week on-site. By your start date, you must be able to reliably commute to the site, typically meaning living within a reasonable commuting distance of HM Naval Base Clyde or relocating prior to joining.
