The Role

This role offers a unique opportunity to be the technical authority for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) activities within our Naval Nuclear business. You will be instrumental in leading the delivery of EMC support and testing for complex and cutting-edge defence programmes, ensuring that the UK's most important naval platforms remain safe, compliant, and mission-ready. This is an exciting position that combines technical expertise, leadership, and innovation, directly contributing to national security. You will collaborate with a variety of engineers, technical specialists, and Ministry of Defence stakeholders, driving continuous improvement and fostering the growth of EMC capability across the business.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Lead a team of engineers and lead engineers in delivering EMC testing and support projects.
• Manage the scoping, planning, scheduling, and budgeting of all EMC testing activities.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across EMC support, testing processes, and engineering best practices.
• Collaborate effectively with internal teams and customer stakeholders to enhance project outcomes and performance.
• Contribute to the growth of EMC capability and support the development of future engineering opportunities.

This is a full-time, permanent role working 35 hours per week, based at Babcock Technology Centre, Bristol, with hybrid working arrangements available.

Essential Experience

• Subject Matter Expert knowledge of DEF STAN 59-411.
• Strong understanding of electromagnetic compatibility principles, standards, and theory.
• Proven experience working within the Ministry of Defence Submarine Delivery Agency environment and stakeholder landscape.
• Experience in authoring EMC Control Plans and associated technical documentation.
• Experience in developing EMC design policies, including cable routing and segregation guidance.

Qualifications

• HNC in Electrical or Electronic Engineering plus relevant industry experience, OR a Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Physics, or a related scientific discipline.
• Professionally registered as, or actively working towards becoming, a Chartered Engineer with a relevant professional institution.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Eligibility for certain positions may be influenced by factors such as place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and residency status, due to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
