Aerospace Mechanical Engineering Design Office Internship

The Aerospace Mechanical Engineering Design Office is seeking an undergraduate intern to join their team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the core engineering expertise behind physical designs, from concept to launch, for a variety of space projects including Earth Observation, Science, Navigation, and Telecom missions.

About the Role:

You will be part of the Physical Design PMTD team, playing a pivotal role in the Digital Design and Manufacturing Service (DDMS) improvement project. This project aims to deliver significant financial savings through waste reduction and the implementation of digitalization to enhance end-to-end business processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process Development: Specify, develop, and document process changes required for the successful deployment of new toolsets such as 3DExperience and Catia V6.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to design and implement leaner, more efficient workflows.
  • Digital Transformation: Contribute to the wider business strategy by optimizing end-to-end processes through digitalization.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present a final report to department managers and key stakeholders, showcasing your findings and project impact.

About You:

This placement is exclusively for Undergraduates who will be studying for the entire duration of the placement. Ideally, you should be currently studying a Mechanical Engineering degree and possess experience or knowledge of CAD/CAM tools, preferably Dassault System tools (Catia V5 or V6, Delmia, Apriso). Some programming skills (VB, VB.net, php, mysql, C#) are also beneficial. You should thrive in a collaborative environment and communicate confidently with stakeholders at all levels.

What We Offer:

  • Salary: £24,500 per annum.
  • Working Hours: 37 hours per week with flexible working options.
  • Hybrid working opportunities may be available depending on the role.
  • Half day Fridays are offered (subject to completing full hours prior).
  • 25 days of holiday plus bank holidays.

Security Clearance:

You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. Depending on the role, you may also need to obtain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control.
