Undergraduate Placement: Communication Technologies
Airbus Central Research and Technology in Filton, UK, is seeking motivated undergraduates for a placement within the Communication Technologies department. This is an exciting opportunity to work on advanced solutions for optical connectivity and satellite communications, contributing to the development of cutting-edge technologies for future airborne and spaceborne systems.
About the Role:
As part of our team, you will be involved in pioneering research in optical and satellite communication systems for our flying platforms. You will collaborate with key players across the UK, Europe, and the US, contributing to novel functionalities and reducing the environmental footprint of Airbus products and services. The role offers hands-on experience in a dynamic research environment.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Designing 3D-printed and CNC'ed parts for prototype systems.
- Coding and testing software for communication systems.
- Integrating hardware and assisting with trials in the lab and in outdoor field tests.
- Assisting team members with daily tasks and gaining on-the-job learning in optics, optical communications, and radio-frequency systems.
Requirements:
This placement is open exclusively to Undergraduates who will remain enrolled for the entire duration of the placement. Your application should include a CV and a Cover Letter detailing your motivation and suitability.
- Active enrollment in an Engineering discipline, preferably Software Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or RF Systems Engineering.
- Knowledge of information theory, control theory, and programming experience with processors and microcontrollers (e.g., Raspberry Pi, Arduino).
- Strong team player with excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work independently.
Security Clearance:
You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. Depending on the specific role, you may also be required to obtain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control.
