Operations Analyst Intern
The Atlas Integrated Operations Centre (AIOC) is the central hub for the Royal Air Force (RAF) A400M fleet. We are seeking a motivated Operations Analyst Intern to help us leverage the extensive technical, logistical, and fleet data generated daily.
About the Role
In this internship, you will convert complex operational and engineering data into actionable insights to maximize aircraft availability and mission readiness. Your focus will be on performance monitoring, data manipulation, and continuous improvement within a dynamic military aerospace operations setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Track and analyze live RAF A400M fleet metrics, aircraft availability, and system maintenance logs. Assist in building and updating visual dashboards for fleet health and KPIs. Monitor workflows to identify bottlenecks and generate performance reports for data-driven decision-making.
- Data Manipulation & Process Automation: Clean, structure, and merge fragmented datasets from engineering, military, and logistics systems. Help automate repetitive data collection and reporting tasks. Streamline data flow to improve decision-making speed and document data workflows and SOPs.
- Process & Continuous Improvement (CI): Investigate data trends to perform root-cause analysis on fleet delays or operational bottlenecks. Identify and eliminate repetitive tasks, data silos, or manual steps. Collaborate with teams to translate data insights into standardized operational improvements.

Requirements
This placement is open to Undergraduates only and requires candidates to be enrolled for the entire duration of the placement. Candidates should preferably be in a penultimate year of study.
Relevant degree programs include Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or Business Administration (quantitative focus).
While prior internships are not required, project-based experience is highly valued. Candidates should demonstrate:
- Ability to manipulate, clean, and structure raw data.
- Experience with Google Workspace (Sheets, Forms, Apps Script).
- Hands-on experience building dashboards and reports in Power BI.
- Advanced Excel skills, including Power Query and pivot tables.
- Strong autonomous work ethic, time management, and project ownership.
- Comfort in team settings and presenting findings.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail in data accuracy and visual presentation.
- Proactive research and troubleshooting abilities.
- Clear communication of data insights.
A UK driving licence and access to a car would be beneficial.
Security Clearance
You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control may also be required.
