Embark on the Nuclear Safety Engineering and Operations Graduate Programme at Devonport Royal Dockyard, a unique opportunity to play a key role in supporting the safe operation, maintenance, and development of nuclear and radiological facilities.
From day one, you will contribute to real-world projects that protect people, assets, and the environment. Your responsibilities will be diverse, potentially including reviewing engineering designs for compliance with nuclear safety standards, developing safety cases, conducting hazard analysis, performing risk assessments, modelling scenarios, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and preparing technical reports. Every task directly contributes to the safety and performance of our operations.

Programme Structure:
The two-year programme provides a strong foundation in nuclear safety engineering and operational safety management. For the first 18 months, you will complete rotations (two to four months each) across various business areas to gain a broad understanding. The final six months will involve a focused role with increased responsibility and in-depth experience in your chosen specialisation.
Development and Support:
You will receive structured support, personalised training, and dedicated mentorship from industry experts, including safety case authors, plant managers, and radiation protection advisors. The Graduate Development Programme includes masterclasses on essential professional skills. Guidance and fees for Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status are provided.
Post-Programme Opportunities:
Upon successful completion, you can specialise in Nuclear Safety or Plant Management. Continuous support will be provided for progression into senior roles, with clear career pathways defined through the Babcock Role Framework.

Application Requirements:
Applicants must have achieved, or be on track to achieve, a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a STEM subject. Due to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions, you must be able to achieve and maintain Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), Security Check (SC), and Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPI) clearance. This post may only be occupied by a sole UK national.
Location:
The programme is based at Devonport, Plymouth, a critical hub for supporting the Royal Navy. While the primary location is Plymouth, placements at other UK sites may be possible. Agile working is supported, with an expectation of multiple on-site working days per week. Flexibility and openness to relocation are encouraged.
