About the Programme
As a Graduate Naval Architect at Babcock, you’ll contribute to some of the world's most complex and exciting engineering projects. This programme is designed to build your expertise across various facets of naval architecture through diverse and challenging work.
What You'll Do
Your projects could range from managing the docking of large vessels to assessing structural integrity for aircraft carrier operations. You may also analyse mooring systems, design blast-resistant systems, or define stability requirements for submarines. Throughout your placements, you will gain in-depth knowledge of floating vessel and structure analysis and design, covering areas like hull form, stability, propulsion, and human factors. You will be empowered to make a significant impact from the outset.
Programme Structure
The two-year Naval Architecture Graduate Programme offers extensive experience through a series of short placements in different teams. These placements will allow you to explore specialisms such as hydrodynamics, structures, design, stability, and safety, potentially across various business areas including submarine sustainment, surface ships, and marine infrastructure projects. This variety ensures a comprehensive understanding of naval architecture in practice.
Development and Support
From day one, you'll benefit from structured support, personalised training, and dedicated mentorship. You will join the Graduate Development Programme, which includes expert-led masterclasses on crucial professional skills. Babcock also provides guidance and covers associated fees to support your journey towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
Career Progression
Upon successful completion of the programme, you will transition into a permanent role within the Engineering Function, continuing to apply and expand your acquired skills. You'll have opportunities to advance your professional registration and pursue more senior roles, such as Senior Engineer, supported by Babcock's transparent Role Framework.

What We're Looking For
You should have achieved, or be on track to achieve, a BEng, MEng, BSc, or MSc in one of the following fields: Naval Architecture, Ship Science, Marine Engineering, Marine Technology, Ship Building, Offshore Engineering, Composites, Aerospace, or Ocean Engineering.
Due to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions, you must be able to achieve and maintain BPSS and SC security clearance. This role may also be restricted to sole UK nationals.
Location
This programme is based at the Babcock Technology Centre in Bristol, supporting key customers like the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Navy. While your home base will be Bristol, placements at other UK sites are possible, and flexibility in relocation is encouraged.
