Role Overview
Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) Ltd, a subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supports major UK defence programmes including Apache, Chinook, C-17, P-8A, and E7 Wedgetail. Employing over 1,700 people, BDUK provides engineering sustainment, support, and training for aircraft in service with the UK armed forces. As a Technician within the Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) organisation, you will be a key part of supporting our vital programmes. Your responsibilities will include ensuring adherence to established processes, accurate work recording, and contractual/regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
Reporting to a Supervisor, your primary duties will involve conducting assigned maintenance tasks. You must be able to understand, interpret, and implement technical information, ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with Approved Technical Data and certified according to your authorisations.
- Ideally possess technical skills and knowledge of maintenance practices and techniques.
- Execute aircraft maintenance activities to meet schedule milestones, control workloads, and ensure high standards of quality and performance.
- Deliver aircraft maintenance under Boeing’s MAA MRP Part 145 approval or the MOD customer's approval.
- Perform assembly, disassembly, modification, or repair of aircraft systems, structures, electronics, and components.
- Upgrade aerospace components to correct failures or implement changes.
- Conduct routine troubleshooting of complex aircraft systems (pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical/electronic) to isolate faults and repair components in accordance with authorised maintenance documents.
- Be flexible with work locations and times to ensure timely aircraft delivery.
- Provide advice, guidance, and mentoring to peers and others.
- Exercise appropriate supervision or work under supervision as required for the role.
- Mitigate immediate risks, including initiating 'stop work' actions, and escalate emerging risks, issues, and shortfalls promptly.
- Contribute to continuous improvement workshops and projects.
- Where directed, provide 100% oversight of work carried out by Boeing Apprentices or Trainees, including mentoring.
- Contribute positively to our open and honest reporting culture.
There is an expectation that successful candidates will be eligible to apply for 1st signature on type within their first 3 months.
Basic Qualifications
- Fluent written and spoken English.
Preferred Skills
- Good communication skills, with the ability to distribute and sequence technical work requirements, manage demanding workloads, and maintain high standards and schedules.
- Understanding of technical documents, drawings, and associated publications.
- Ideally possess working knowledge of MAA Regulatory Articles (RA), MAA Regulatory Publication (MRP) Part 145, aviation Quality Assurance (QA), and Safety Management System (SMS), and their application.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
- Recognised relevant trade apprenticeship or equivalent trade training.
- Knowledge of general aircraft maintenance processes (Human Factors, FOD control, tool control, health & safety & COSHH).
- Experience in either commercial or defence aviation.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.
