Internship Opportunity: Earth Observation Satellite Payloads
Airbus Defence and Space Limited is offering a 12-month internship in Portsmouth, focusing on Earth Observation Satellite Payloads within the radar and microwaves department. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of global experts developing cutting-edge spaceborne radar and radiometer payloads.
About the Role:
You will be integrated into the instrument development team, contributing to the next generation of Earth Observation radar, microwave, and/or optical payloads. The role involves undertaking architecture and design activities, developing concepts in response to technical specifications, and carrying out payload systems design engineering, product development, and procurement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support a range of activities within the instrument development team.
- Undertake instrument architecture and design activities within specific project areas.
- Develop architectural concepts and designs considering payload design constraints.
- Carry out payload systems design engineering, product development, and procurement for spaceborne applications.
- Perform detailed analyses of space-based payloads and sensors.
- Contribute to model philosophy and Assembly, Integration & Verification planning.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to develop robust technical solutions.
About You:
This placement is open to Undergraduates only and requires candidates to be studying towards a degree in Physics, Engineering, Electronics, Microwave, or a related applicable degree. You should demonstrate a willingness to learn, experience with performance modelling and development tools (e.g., Matlab, Python), and confidence working in a multidisciplinary systems environment.
What We Offer:
- Salary: £24,500 per annum.
- 37 hours per week with flexible working hours.

Security Clearance:
You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. Depending on the specific role, you may also need to gain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control.
