About the Programme
Join our Mechanical Engineering Graduate Programme and contribute to some of the UK’s most impactful engineering projects. This is your opportunity to develop technical expertise and leadership skills while working on solutions that safeguard tomorrow.
At Babcock, you will support various stages of the engineering lifecycle, including technology innovation, concept design, production, in-service support, and decommissioning. You could be designing submarines and surface ships, converting military vehicles, refurbishing ships, or advancing next-generation nuclear power plants.
You will work alongside a global network of engineers, technicians, and specialists. Your expertise will be vital in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of critical national infrastructure.
Programme Structure
Over two years, you will undertake rotations in placements lasting three to six months. These rotations will allow you to explore a variety of projects and teams, broaden your experience, and potentially relocate to different sites. This structure helps you build your professional network and deepen your understanding of the business.
You will build a strong foundation in mechanical engineering and gradually take on greater responsibilities, such as leading small teams and overseeing projects. You can align your placements with your interests and career goals.
Development and Support
From day one, you will receive structured support, personalised training, and dedicated mentorship. You will join our Graduate Development Programme, featuring expert-led masterclasses on communication, personal branding, resilience, and wellbeing.
Babcock supports your journey toward Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, offering guidance and covering associated fees.
Career Progression
Upon completion of the programme, you will move into a permanent role within the Engineering Function. You will have the opportunity to continue building your progress toward professional registration and advance into roles such as Senior Engineer.

What You Need to Apply
- You must have achieved, or be on track to achieve, a BEng or MEng in Mechanical, Structural, Motorsport, Materials, Mechatronics, Engine Systems, Welding, Automotive, or AeroMechanical engineering.
- For this programme, you must be able to achieve and maintain Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) security clearance.
- Under applicable national security legislation, this post may only be occupied by a sole UK national.
Location
Places are available in our Mission Systems business, based in Bristol, Plymouth, or Ashchurch. Agile working is supported, but on-site presence multiple times a week is expected. Placements at different sites across the UK are possible, and flexibility and openness to relocation are encouraged.
