About the Programme
Join our Mechanical Engineering Graduate Programme and gain the opportunity to work on some of the UK’s most significant engineering projects. At Babcock, you will support work across the entire engineering lifecycle, from initial concept design and technological innovation through to production, commissioning, in-service support, and decommissioning.
Potential Project Areas
Your work could involve designing cutting-edge submarines and surface ships, converting military vehicles, refurbishing vessels, or advancing next-generation nuclear power plants contributing to the UK’s net-zero goals. You will collaborate with a global network of engineers and specialists, contributing to the safety, reliability, and performance of critical national infrastructure through activities such as design reviews, stress analysis, and system integration.
Programme Structure
Over two years, you will undertake rotations through various placements, typically lasting three to six months. These rotations are designed to expose you to different projects and teams, broadening your experience and professional network. Some placements may involve relocation, offering insights into different business operations. You will build a strong foundation in mechanical engineering, gradually taking on increased responsibilities, including leading small teams and overseeing projects. Placements can be aligned with your interests and career aspirations.
Development and Support
From your first day, you will receive structured support, tailored training, and dedicated mentorship. The Graduate Development Programme includes expert-led masterclasses covering communication, personal branding, resilience, and wellbeing. Guidance and financial support for achieving Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status are provided.
Career Progression
Upon successful completion of the programme, you will transition into a permanent role within our Engineering Function. You will have opportunities to further develop your skills, work towards professional registration, and advance into roles such as Senior Engineer, guided by the Babcock Role Framework which outlines clear career pathways.

What You Need to Apply
You must have achieved, or be on track to achieve, a BEng or MEng in Mechanical, Structural, Motorsport, Materials, Mechatronics, Engine Systems, Welding, Automotive, or AeroMechanical engineering.
Location and Security
This programme is based in Rosyth, Scotland. This role requires on-site attendance, meaning you must be able to commute reliably to the site or relocate. While your primary placement will be in Rosyth, placements at other UK sites are possible, and flexibility is encouraged. Due to programme requirements and potential trade control restrictions, you must be able to achieve and maintain Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) security clearance. Nationality, place of birth, citizenship, or residency held may affect eligibility.
