Mechanical and Climatic Engineer - Summer Placement 2027
Mechanical and Climatic Engineers are critical to ensuring MBDA products perform reliably throughout their in-service life. This placement offers a challenging and dynamic experience, working across the full spectrum of MBDA products within a supportive team environment.
This is a 10-week placement commencing in June 2027, designed to allow you to apply your academic knowledge to tangible projects and cutting-edge technologies. High performance during the placement may lead to securing a graduate role before your final year of study.
During your placement within Environmental Engineering & Facilities (EE&F), you will engage with a diverse range of demanding technical projects. This includes hands-on involvement where you can directly influence engineering decisions, strategies, and designs for real-world applications.
The EE&F department comprises three key domains: Test, Trials and Analysis, and Projects. Your placement could involve working across one or all of these areas, contributing to a variety of current products at different stages of their development lifecycle. You will gain valuable experience and develop both technical and soft skills while collaborating with internal and external MBDA partners.
You can expect a technically stimulating and challenging work environment, supported by an experienced department accustomed to hosting placement students. Areas of involvement may include specifying instrumentation for data acquisition during trials, conducting trials at external sites near customer platforms, and performing testing, modelling, and data analysis to verify product compliance with set requirements.
Throughout your placement, you will:
- Understand the development process of a weapon system, including risk reduction, design assessment, and qualification testing for customer acceptance and in-service use.
- Contribute to a range of projects at various stages of the product development cycle, as well as providing in-service support.
- Acquire practical experience by understanding, preparing, and conducting environmental and structural tests in our facilities.
