Intern (d/f/m) - Flight Management Systems

Airbus Defence and Space is seeking an Intern to join the Flight Management Systems department in Manching. This is an excellent opportunity for a Master's student to gain hands-on experience in aerospace engineering, specifically in the development of advanced algorithms for future autonomous flying systems.

About the Role:

This internship focuses on enhancing novel optimization methods for robust multi-aircraft formation flight, incorporating machine learning for improved optimization. The work will involve a diverse range of mathematical and algorithmic approaches, from geometrical methods to deep learning techniques. You will be closely supported by experienced members of our research and technology team.

Department Overview:

The Flight Management Systems department at Airbus Defence and Space is responsible for the system design and development of both military and civil Flight Management Systems (FMS) and Flight Guidance functions. This includes applications for manned aircraft and Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) with a focus on automatic and autonomous operations.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Research and development of algorithms for multi-agent trajectory planning.
  • Enhancing the functionality of existing algorithms in Python and C++.
  • Support in the preparation of relevant documentation for future research.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Enrolled full-time Master student in Mathematics, Computer Science, Aeronautical Engineering, or a similar field.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink is a plus.
  • Familiarity and enthusiasm for optimization, machine learning, and trajectory planning.
  • Experience with development tools such as Git, Linux, and documentation in LaTeX.
  • Very good English skills.
  • Excellent team player.
