Design Safety Engineer
Rolls-Royce Defence is seeking Design Safety Engineers in Bristol (hybrid, minimum 3 days on site) and Derby. We are a market leader in aero engines for military transport and patrol aircraft, and also have significant scale in naval, and strong positions in combat and helicopter applications. We are pioneering advanced power systems for future combat air systems.

What you will be doing:
- Influence design by understanding failure impacts on system operation and reliability.
- Evaluate design concepts, identify potential failures, their consequences, and product-level hazards, defining mitigation strategies.
- Assess component designs to identify potential failure modes, their effects, and criticality (e.g., FMECA).
- Identify critical and significant parts and systems through detailed product risk analysis.
- Perform numerical analysis of failures using deterministic and probabilistic mathematical methods.
- Analyze and quantify risks associated with human/system interaction, including Human Factors.
- Produce Safety Case reports.
- Operate a Failure Reporting Analysis & Corrective Action System (FRACAS).

- Qualification to degree level in a STEM subject.
- Experience in a relevant engineering environment (Mechanical, Aeronautical, Electrical, or Controls).
- Good holistic approach to problem-solving.
- Analytical and logical approach.
- Familiarity with the design, operation, and environment of gas turbine engines.
- Knowledge/experience of Safety & Reliability engineering techniques.
