About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity to take a leading role in the design and development of a key subsystem for a high-profile project aiming to deliver the Royal Navy's first operational Laser Directed Energy Weapon (LDEW) capability in rapid timescales.

The DragonFire project is developing MBDA's new Laser Directed Energy Weapon for the Royal Navy. A critical component of this system is the Command and Control (C2) system, which integrates various weapon system components, provides digital integration with the ship's systems and sensors, and empowers the operator to plan and execute laser engagements.

Reporting to the Head of C2, you will provide day-to-day management, direction, and technical leadership for the multi-disciplinary Common Architecture Team (CAT), which is responsible for the design of the C2 system. This role offers good visibility and engagement across a range of MBDA weapon system design functions.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in building the foundation for future design evolutions of MBDA LDEW products beyond the DragonFire Minimum Deployable Capability (MDC) programme. You will engage with System Design, Software and Algorithms engineers, as well as safety and human factors teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and technical leadership, including activity tracking and project reporting, for the multi-functional Common Architecture Team (CAT).
  • Oversee the design of the C2 system, a critical component for the DragonFire LDEW.
  • Collaborate with various engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration and functionality.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of future MBDA LDEW product capabilities.
