AI Product Engineer

About the Role

Join our growing Operational Effects team within the Cyber & Intelligence business at Northrop Grumman UK, where you will be instrumental in building the next generation of AI-enabled products for national security and government customers. As an AI Product Engineer, you will help create proprietary software capabilities that deliver operational advantage, strengthen existing programmes, and unlock future growth opportunities. This is a unique chance to join at an early stage and play a key role in establishing and scaling a new AI product engineering capability.

You will collaborate closely with engineers, technical specialists, and users, guiding products from concept through to adoption. You will have the opportunity to shape technical direction, influence product strategy, and deliver innovative solutions using modern AI technologies, including large language models (LLMs), retrieval augmented generation (RAG), and agentic workflows. If you are passionate about solving real-world problems, experimenting with emerging technologies, and building software with meaningful impact, this opportunity is for you.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Design, build, and maintain AI-enabled software products that support operational mission outcomes.
• Develop capabilities using LLMs, RAG architectures, agentic workflows, and other emerging AI technologies.
• Work directly with users and stakeholders to understand challenges and translate requirements into valuable product features.
• Contribute to product roadmaps, software architecture decisions, and engineering standards.
• Implement robust engineering practices, including testing, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and supportability.
• Support technical demonstrations, stakeholder engagement activities, innovation initiatives, and recruitment efforts.

What We’re Looking For

We are interested in candidates who can demonstrate:

• Experience in designing, developing, or supporting software products or applications.
• Knowledge of modern software engineering practices, including testing, version control, and continuous integration.
• Experience or a strong interest in AI technologies, machine learning, LLMs, RAG solutions, or intelligent automation.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex technical challenges.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• The ability to work effectively both independently and within collaborative, multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable Experience

• Experience in the defence, national security, government, or advanced technology sectors.
• Experience developing AI-enabled products or data-driven applications.
• Exposure to cloud-native technologies, modern software architectures, and DevOps practices.
• Experience mentoring colleagues or contributing to technical leadership activities.
• A degree qualification in a relevant discipline, although equivalent experience is equally valued.
