Welding Engineer

BAE Systems is seeking a Welding Engineer to join a team at the forefront of the UK’s artillery manufacturing resurgence. This role is crucial for nationally significant defence programmes, serving both UK and international customers. Core Duties:
- Investigate welding defects and technical queries, collaborating with manufacturing teams to enhance processes and working instructions.
- Develop and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), ensuring adherence to customer, regulatory, and quality requirements.
- Review welding and NDT non-conformances, assisting with root cause analyses, corrective actions, and successful resolutions.
- Support continuous improvement objectives by identifying opportunities to boost welding quality, efficiency, and overall manufacturing performance.
- Maintain precise welding documentation, certification, and traceability records, while coordinating qualifications, inspections, and external compliance activities.
Essential Skills:
- Demonstrable experience in developing and qualifying Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) within regulated manufacturing settings.
- Practical knowledge of welding coordination activities and compliance with standards such as ISO 3834, PED, or equivalent quality standards.
- Acquired experience working within defence, aerospace, pressure vessel, oil and gas, or similarly highly regulated industries.
- Considerable technical understanding of TIG and PAW welding processes, coupled with experience supporting highly detailed fabrication activities.
- A relevant engineering qualification in welding, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering; experience with titanium or other high-specification materials is highly desirable.
