Structural Welder - Barrow

BAE Systems is seeking skilled Structural Welders to join our Operations Team in Barrow. You will play a vital role in the construction of the Astute and Dreadnought submarine programmes, contributing to the advancement of defence and security solutions.

As a Structural Welder, you will be responsible for performing Flux Core welding and potentially mechanised welding. This role involves working at heights and in confined spaces, demanding a strong awareness of Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) procedures, quality standards, and relevant product/process knowledge.

Core Duties:

  • Comply with SHE regulations and operate machinery only when trained and competent.
  • Understand and meet targets safely and with a focus on quality.
  • Maintain positive working relationships within the team and with stakeholders.
  • Take responsibility for the quality and safety of your work, making appropriate decisions to meet requirements.
  • Be accountable for your own safety and the safety of others, engaging with management on any safety concerns.

The Operations Team:

In the Operations Team, you will conduct varied steelwork welding tasks across a range of products and materials, covering the full lifecycle of build programmes for the Astute and Dreadnought submarines. All team members operate in line with defined procedures and standards, ensuring a safe and structured working environment.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Must have served a full Modern Apprenticeship.
  • Experienced in Flux Cored welding.
  • Varied experience across a range of welding processes and assemblies, including alignment and forming materials.
  • Safety certification (e.g., SHE induction, COSHH awareness, working at height) is desirable.
