// Role Specification

A position for a Secondary Power System Engine (also known as Auxiliary Power Unit - APU) In-Service Engineer has arisen within Airbus in Getafe (Madrid). The successful applicant will join the 1PYE2 department, within the Airbus Powerplant organization (Propulse).

The Secondary Power System Engine (aka APU Engine/Turbomachinery; 1PYE2) team is fully multi-functional, gathering the range of competencies needed to integrate the engine system that provides non-propulsive energy onto the Aircraft, covering its complete life cycle. This cycle starts from Research and new Technologies, passing through product development, qualification and certification, and finishing with in-service engineering support and continuous airworthiness.

The job, as an integrator of the system in the Aircraft, requires technical knowledge on different disciplines (Fuel, Thermal, Vibration, Pneumatic, Engine Performances, etc.), good communication skills for interfacing with numerous Airbus departments (Design offices responsible for interfaced A/C systems, Program, Production, Quality, Maintainability, Procurement, Customer Services, Airworthiness, etc.), and leadership for steering APU manufacturers. The role emphasizes safety and airworthiness in all actions, alongside environmental care.

This job position will provide you the opportunity of understanding and gathering experience on the in-service phase and continuous development of the product, allowing you to further grow and bring new ideas for future aircraft architectures and technologies, all within the same department.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and steer APU suppliers for: APU turbomachinery performance in-service, root cause investigation for failures or misbehaviors, and technical changes adequacy, proper verification and impact at A/C level.
  • Lead APU turbomachinery technical investigation of reportable occurrences (from airlines, manufacturing, engineering, etc.), providing Risk Assessment at A/C level, and determining and ensuring implementation of corrective actions when relevant.
  • End-to-end technical responsible for design solutions implemented through the Aircraft Mod process (from supplier activities, Airbus committees steering, V&V, up to delivery of all inputs required for certification).
  • Support production activities by providing engineering response to the Final Assembly Line and Production Flight Line for APU turbomachinery issues.
  • Provide on-time and on-quality response to Customer Services queries (support to Airlines troubleshooting, upgrade or correct Aircraft Manuals instructions, provide solutions for AOG situations, etc.).
  • Many other tasks that require the Design Office engineering input.

SKILLS

  • Mechanical/Aeronautical engineer.
  • Good knowledge on Engines (Gas Turbines, Combustion, others).
  • Strong Autonomy and Proactivity.
  • Strong communication skills and Team work spirit, willing to be part of a multicultural and international environment.
  • Experience on systems or powerplant integration.
  • Internal and External Stakeholders Management, including APU suppliers.
  • Familiar with A/C Change and Continued Airworthiness processes.
  • Languages: Negotiation level of English.
  • Knowledge of Data Analytics is a plus.
  • Experience on engine testing is a plus.
  • Basic Project Management knowledge is a plus.
  • Languages: French or German would be a plus.
