Airbus Defence and Space GmbH is looking for a Software Developer (m/f/d) specializing in AI Systems and Agentic AI to join their Engineering Defence Digital team in Ulm.

About the Role:

Our Ulm-based department develops complex military systems for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR). These systems can be platform-based (e.g., aircraft, ship) or networked and distributed across multiple locations. The core function involves fusing information from various sources to create a comprehensive operational picture. Utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods, this picture is enhanced through predictions, anomaly detection, pattern recognition, and statistical analysis, enabling significantly faster decision-making in complex military scenarios.

Your Responsibilities:

• Planning and implementation of AI training and inference pipelines: Develop scalable pipeline architectures for training and operational deployment of deep learning models, including automation, monitoring, and deployment in distributed infrastructure.
• Evaluation and optimization of AI approaches: Systematically assess various model architectures and training strategies, derive performance metrics, and optimize models for accuracy, latency, and resource efficiency in real-time systems.
• Participation in AI and Big Data projects: Actively engage in cross-functional project teams to develop AI-based solutions for the fusion and analysis of large datasets from different sensors and sources, crucial for creating operational situation awareness.
• Design and implementation of Multi-Agent Systems: Design and implement intelligent agent systems that autonomously or cooperatively handle complex tasks, ranging from situational analysis and decision support to automated real-time detection of anomalies and patterns.
• Design and documentation of software architectures: Be responsible for the architecture of AI-based software components, create clear architectural documentation, ensure integration into existing systems, and manage the entire lifecycle from conception to operational use.
• Design and implementation of Data Processing Pipelines: Develop robust and performant data processing pipelines for the preparation, transformation, and provision of large datasets as a basis for AI models and analytical evaluations in our ISR systems.
• Test and validation of AI models, including the application of methods from "explainable AI".

Required Knowledge and Qualifications:

• Completed degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or a comparable field.
• Strong background in Deep Learning and Data Science.
• Solid knowledge in Agentic AI.
• Several years of experience with Python, PyTorch, and generative AI tools.
• Proficient in Linux and basic knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD, and containerization.
• Basic knowledge of microservice architectures.
• Fluent German and English language skills.
