Slinger Supervisor - Portsmouth Naval Base

Join BAE Systems as a Slinger Supervisor at HM Naval Base Portsmouth, where you will be instrumental in supporting maintenance, repair, and manufacturing activities for both military and commercial clients. This onsite role offers opportunities to work within the Load Test Facility and afloat environments, ensuring the safe execution of planned and reactive lifting operations while upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, and operational performance.

Role Responsibilities:

• Lead lifting activities from planning through to completion, performing a variety of slinging, fleeting, and overhead crane duties.
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders, leveraging your technical expertise, lifting experience, and digital tools to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of loads across diverse projects.
• Maintain strict compliance with PUWER and LOLER regulations, implementing safe systems of work throughout all lifting operations.
• Execute and support lifting activities using a range of lifting equipment, including chain blocks and overhead cranes.
• Supervise complex lifting operations, ensuring all activities align with approved lift plans.
• Apply and interpret crane hand signals in accordance with BS 7121 to promote safe and effective communication.
• Work collaboratively within teams undertaking high-risk, intermediate, and complex lifts in maritime and facilities settings.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

• A clear understanding of the responsibilities and interfaces between Appointed Persons and Lift Supervisors in lifting operations.
• Hold recognised Slinger/Signaller and Lift Supervisor certifications, coupled with practical experience in lifting activities.
• NVQ Level 3 qualification, or equivalent qualifications and/or demonstrable experience in lifting and load movement operations.
• Considerable knowledge of lift categorisation, with the ability to differentiate between intermediate and complex lifts and implement appropriate controls.

The Load Test Facility Team:

As a Slinger Supervisor, you will be an integral part of the Services Team, operating within the Load Test Facility or in afloat areas. Your work will support repair and manufacturing projects for the Ministry of Defence and other military and commercial customers.
