About the Role

The Operations Engineering team provides essential engineering resources to support operational performance and major product development projects. This encompasses the entire lifecycle, from design through engineering build and production support to end-of-life. The team offers comprehensive product lifecycle support, including prototype design and build, development of build documentation, and meeting the requirements for full production build.

This Senior Manufacturing Engineer position will be involved throughout the complete product lifecycle, with a primary objective to reduce manufacturing costs and enhance yield at all stages. These improvements will directly benefit customers and support the Programme in meeting its milestones.

As a key member of the Operations Engineering Team, the Manufacturing Engineer will serve as the primary point of contact for all matters within their area of expertise. They will provide engineering advice, problem-solving support, and coordinate activities essential for current and future business needs.

The Manufacturing Engineer is expected to adopt a proactive approach to achieving 'right first time' quality, thereby fostering business growth. This role will enhance the company's reputation through exceptional quality standards and contribute significantly to an overall reduction in manufacturing costs.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

  • Develop manufacturing processes.
  • Define sequence of operations, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, and material handling, incorporating flow and lean philosophies.
  • Provide Basis of Estimates for engineering activities and shop floor operations across various technologies and disciplines.
  • Identify new tooling and fixturing requirements.
  • Experience in creating Technical Requirement Specifications.
  • Create detailed process instructions.
  • Generate Manufacturing BOMs/routings to facilitate ease of manufacture.
  • Actively participate in Level 1 & 2 MDWT (Mission Directed Work Team) meetings.
  • Support and contribute to the relevant section of the Technology Roadmap to identify improvements for current manufacturing processes and future requirements.
  • Assist with the Technical requirements of the relevant section of the Capital plan, from definition through to acceptance.
  • Support full rate production of a range of products aligned with LMUK Ampthill Business requirements.
  • Maintain close liaison with Industrial Engineering, Production Engineering, and other necessary functions.
  • Support business process reviews and the generation/update of relevant documentation.
