Role Description: Security Consultant – SDA/Lead Engineer
BAE Systems is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Security Consultant to act as Solution Design Authority (SDA) and Chief Engineer for a critical project. You will lead, architect, and design Security Operations Centre (SOC) solutions to support the cyber defence of a major international defence programme. This role involves protecting a mix of Microsoft Cloud services and on-premises data centres across multiple regions and classification levels.
This is a senior position requiring leadership across Services, People, Policy and Process, Technology, and Physical Infrastructure layers, guiding teams to meet complex requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as Chief Engineer and provide engineering leadership for the delivery of SOC solutions through all stages of the engineering lifecycle (concept, requirements definition, design & build, transition to service operation).
- Serve as Technical Design Authority, leading the architecture and design of SOC solutions across all layers, including input to CONOPS, high-level designs, low-level designs, and deployment designs.
- Take technical and engineering responsibility for solution delivery and transition into operation, ensuring functional and non-functional security requirements are met.
- Collaborate with other design team members to develop comprehensive solution architectures.
- Support the design of a range of security tools, such as Splunk and Sentinel SIEM, Nessus Vulnerability Management, and Microsoft XDR.
- Leverage BAE Systems experience, IP, and subject matter expertise to deliver secure solutions.
- Engage with client stakeholders to understand and define security and accreditation requirements.
Core Duties & Experience:
- Extensive experience in engineering leadership and management for the design, build, deployment, and operation of SOC solutions.
- Proven ability in solution architecture and design for SOCs to meet specific customer requirements across the full lifecycle and all solution layers.
- Knowledge and experience in designing, building, and deploying SOC technologies, including at least two of SIEM, SOAR, EDR, Vulnerability Management, and Threat Intelligence.
- Good understanding of industry best practices in Security Operations across all layers.
- Understanding of common threats and mitigation techniques, risk assessment, and vulnerability management.
- Knowledge of both On-Premises and Cloud security architectures and designs.
- Ability to define and research novel requirements and test potential solutions.
- Familiarity with architectural frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Zachmann) and modelling.
- Good knowledge and experience of common Enterprise ICT services.
- Experience working with Government systems and senior stakeholders.
- Experience working across various delivery styles (agile, lean, iterative/incremental, waterfall).
Location and Working Arrangements:
This role is based in Guildford or Frimley, UK. BAE Systems offers a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
Security Requirements:
This role requires a minimum of SC clearance, with DV clearance being ideal. Applicants must be able to achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). Please be aware that many roles are subject to security and export control restrictions.
