Safety Case Engineer - HMNB Clyde
Babcock is seeking a Safety Case Engineer to join our team at HMNB Clyde, near Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute. This role is integral to creating a safe and secure world by working on some of the UK's most complex and safety-critical engineering programmes.
As a Safety Case Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring high-hazard activities can be carried out safely. You will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and reducing risk, while supporting the continued operation of vital defence infrastructure. Key Responsibilities:
- Developing and maintaining safety cases and safety justification documentation to support nuclear and high-hazard operations.
- Assessing risks and demonstrating that risks have been reduced to As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP).
- Producing technical reports and safety documentation that support operational and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborating with engineering teams, stakeholders, and subject matter experts across the business.
- Supporting site-wide Periodic Safety Review programmes and providing independent technical assessments when required.
What You'll Bring:
Essential experience includes authoring and reviewing technical reports and safety documentation, explaining complex technical issues to various audiences, and engaging effectively with stakeholders. You will need strong presentation, communication, and technical writing skills, along with experience applying fundamental safety case methodologies in engineering, defence, nuclear, or other highly regulated environments.
Qualifications:
- Essential: Higher National Certificate or Higher National Diploma in Engineering, or a relevant Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics degree.
- Desirable: Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status or working towards registration, plus additional qualifications or training in safety engineering, risk management, or safety case development.
Working Arrangements:
This is a full-time role, 36 hours per week, with hybrid working arrangements available. The position is offered on a permanent or fixed-term contract basis.
Security Clearance:
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Eligibility may be affected by place of birth, nationality, citizenship, and residency.
