About the Role
As a Principal Product Safety Engineer reporting to the Radar Product Safety Manager, you will be instrumental in delivering comprehensive product safety engineering activities for both legacy and future radar systems. This role involves providing expert advice, producing essential safety documentation, ensuring adherence to stringent safety requirements, and resolving complex engineering challenges. You will support key project milestones and offer crucial technical guidance to a variety of stakeholders. Knowledge of military product design is considered beneficial for this position.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide expert product safety guidance to engineering teams, supporting projects, bids, and design activities.
- Develop and maintain safety management plans, hazard logs, safety cases, and certification evidence.
- Conduct thorough hazard identification, risk assessments, and safety analyses, utilising methodologies such as FMEA and FTA.
- Evaluate engineering designs and collaborate closely with customers to guarantee that all safety requirements are met.
- Lead or support product safety reviews involving customers, regulators, supply chain partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Foster and promote a strong safety culture through incident investigations, technical leadership, mentoring, and capability development initiatives.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Possess knowledge of defence and/or MOD safety standards, including Def Stan 00-055/056 or MIL-STAN 882E.
- Demonstrate experience in applying safety processes across systems engineering lifecycles and product development phases.
- Exhibit proficiency in hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety analysis techniques.
- Have the ability to develop robust safety cases, ALARP justifications, and comprehensive hazard logs.
- Showcase excellent stakeholder management, communication, collaborative working, and technical report writing skills.
- Be degree-qualified in engineering, ideally Chartered (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status, or actively working towards it, with broad product safety expertise.

Location and Working Arrangements
