Principal Manufacturing Engineer – Manufacturing Systems
Join BAE Systems in Glasgow, Govan, and play a pivotal role in pioneering progress and protecting what matters most. As a Principal Manufacturing Engineer, you will be a technical authority, supporting and mentoring manufacturing engineers in delivering systems that create real business value for crucial programmes like Type 26 (T26) and future shipbuilding projects.
This is a highly collaborative, onsite, full-time role. You will work closely with colleagues across Operations, IT, and other key functions to deliver integrated digital solutions that enable world-class ship manufacturing. You will act as the Test Manager for the Manufacturing Execution System (MES), owning the end-to-end test process and overseeing planning, execution, and completion of all work packages.
Core Duties:
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to manufacturing engineers, fostering capability growth within the team.
- Drive the development, integration, and utilisation of data from manufacturing systems to enable insight-led decision making and process optimisation.
- Support the manufacturing systems requirements lifecycle, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver tactical projects and MES work packages.
- Perform root cause analysis of manufacturing system issues and drive timely resolutions to sustain operational performance.
- Champion continuous improvement in digital manufacturing capability, processes, and data governance.
- Support the Manufacturing Engineering Manager in strategy shaping and exercising Product Owner DOA for manufacturing systems.
Essential Skills:
- Sound engineering knowledge, demonstrable through formal qualifications and experience.
- Experience in Digital Systems such as Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Enterprise Resource Management (ERM), NC Programming, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), and 2D/3D CAD/CAM principles.
- Proven experience in leading and coordinating tasks to deliver high-quality outcomes within agreed timelines, demonstrated through technical leadership.
