About the Role

Rheinmetall Weapon Munitions UK Ltd is establishing one of Europe's most modern production facilities in Telford, the "UK Gun Hall" project. As the Lead SHE Advisor, you will be instrumental in setting up the health, safety, and environmental standards for this new facility. Your primary focus in the initial months will be to collaborate with production teams to establish necessary processes and documentation, ensuring manufacturing can commence in compliance with all relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the development, maintenance, and deployment of a SHE management system, aligning with the Rheinmetall Operational Framework and International SHE Standards (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
  • Plan the phased rollout of RWM UK SHE standards and processes for the UK Gun Hall in collaboration with Rheinmetall Defence UK and Rheinmetall Germany.
  • Generate reports on SHE Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for management.
  • Liaise with management, supervisors, and safety representatives to establish and administer health, safety, and environmental control systems, including associated training and communication requirements.
  • Complete suitable and sufficient general Risk Assessments, develop Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), and conduct COSHH Assessments.
  • Proactively research legislative changes and develop, implement, and monitor systems and procedures to ensure company compliance.
  • Provide expert advice on occupational health, safety, and environmental issues to all internal stakeholders and safety representatives.
  • Conduct accident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Provide necessary training based on areas of competency.
  • Undertake or arrange for environmental monitoring as identified through risk assessments or deemed necessary.
  • Coordinate the activities of SHE support staff, including SHE representatives, fire wardens, and first aiders.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Essential: Thorough knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental legislation.
  • Essential: NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 qualification, or NEBOSH NGC as a minimum.
  • Essential: Formally trained SHE Auditor.
  • Essential: Previous SHE experience in both office and manufacturing environments.
  • Beneficial: Experience implementing SHE management systems compliant with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certifications.
  • You should be a driven, resilient, self-motivated team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong IT skills, and significant energy.
