Head of Product Quality Assurance

Airbus Defence & Space is seeking a Head of Product Quality Assurance to join the TSZQTE department within the Space Products France organization in Toulouse. This role involves leading a team of Quality Project Managers, fostering cohesion, managing workload, and conducting performance reviews.

As the Quality focal point for Space Products Toulouse, you will technically coordinate the Quality team and be responsible for the quality assurance of advanced technical products. These include fiber optic gyroscopic units from the Astrix family, inertial centers (with accelerometers), and gyroscopic actuators (CMG) used for attitude control on spacecraft. These components are critical for diverse missions such as Earth observation satellites, telecommunication satellites, and interplanetary probes.

You will work within an integrated chain, interacting daily with various functions including contracts, cleanroom operations, finance, project management, and engineering/design. The products are delivered to both internal Airbus DS satellite clients and external customers, offering an international and varied work context. Occasional professional travel, primarily within France or Europe, is expected.

Key Responsibilities:

1/ Technical Leader Quality “Sensors and actuators”

  • Act as the primary contact for the quality team members.
  • Manage the Quality team's workload, including person and skill allocation.
  • Serve as the quality reference point for all Space Product Toulouse trades.
  • Centralize communication flows and redirect requests to the appropriate contacts.
  • Facilitate communication between different teams and functions.
  • Support the Head of Quality Space Program France Electronics in resource management (subcontracting needs, new position openings, and requirement descriptions).
  • Support the development of the Quality team by organizing project follow-ups and training needs.
  • Be responsible for 'On Quality' for the department and indirectly for 'On Time, On Cost'.
  • Contribute to business development and commercial proposal phases.
  • Participate in 'Bids no Bids' and respond to quality-related tenders.
  • Act as an interface with entities external to Space Products.
  • Monitor KPIs, consolidate indicators, and alert in case of deviations.
  • Manage alerts by identifying bottlenecks and facilitating problem resolution.
  • Maintain standards by ensuring services comply with processes.
  • Update procedures and processes based on evolving work methods.
  • Support continuous improvement by gathering feedback and proposing solutions.
  • Assist in prioritizing topics.
  • Provide occasional operational support to various projects as needed.
  • Provide weekly reporting to your manager.

2/ Product Quality Assurance Engineer

  • Act as the single point of contact for clients/authorities regarding quality, ensuring communication and implementation of their requirements throughout operational processes (Develop, Fulfil, Support, Source).
  • Validate product control plans and manage non-conformities until product/service delivery.
  • Ensure all applicable activities throughout the product lifecycle (engineering and operations) are defined, planned, and implemented.
  • Organize reviews with clients/suppliers (PDR, CDR, MRR, TRR, DRB, etc.).
  • Verify and evaluate the implementation of QMS and quality plan requirements.
  • Ensure industrial processes comply with quality assurance requirements.
  • Define and ensure the implementation of production controls.
  • Manage non-conformities and deviations, including discrepancy analysis, corrective/preventive action follow-up, and quality standards improvement.
  • Implement the internal Maturity Gate process, consolidate the technical risk register, and track risk mitigation actions.
  • Participate in tender responses for quality aspects.
  • Ensure the consistency of all project documentation.
  • Support company certifications (audits) and interfaces with external quality authorities (ISO, IAQG, EASA, ECSS, etc.).
  • Contribute to experience capitalization, best practice sharing, and continuous improvement of product lines.

Required Skills:

  • Engineering degree in mechanics, thermal, electronics, or quality (or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of electronics, opto-electronics, and/or inertial engineering is appreciated.
  • Familiarity with company quality methods and tools (APQP, ARM, NC CAPA...) & Lean (SQCDP, Q6…).
  • Knowledge of process/documents (MPCB, RFD, RFW, RFA, QSL, CIL, CIDL, KIP, MIP…).
  • Familiarity with quality standards such as EN9100, ECSS quality….
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and leverage others' expertise.
  • Proactive and technically curious.
  • Strong analytical and synthesis skills, with a rigorous scientific approach.
  • Good knowledge of Export Control processes is a plus.
