Health Physics Monitor

At Babcock, we're dedicated to creating a safe and secure world. As a Health Physics Monitor at our HMNB Clyde site, near Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute, you'll be an integral part of this mission.

You will join a specialist team responsible for delivering comprehensive radiation protection and radioactive waste management services across Faslane and Coulport. Operating within a highly regulated environment, your work will be vital in safeguarding people, facilities, and the environment through meticulous monitoring, surveying, and safety assurance activities.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will directly contribute to the safe operation of critical defence infrastructure. You will also have the opportunity to develop valuable technical expertise in radiation protection, environmental safety, and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting workplace radiation and contamination surveys and producing accurate survey reports.
  • Monitoring personnel, materials, and waste prior to release from controlled areas, and carrying out decontamination activities where required.
  • Supporting the collection, processing, and disposal of radioactive waste and associated materials.
  • Providing radiation protection guidance and safety briefings to support safe working practices.
  • Assisting team leaders in delivering safe, efficient, and compliant radiation operations activities.

This is a full-time, permanent role, working 36 hours per week, based on site at HMNB Clyde.

Essential Experience:

  • Knowledge of Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017.
  • Experience working within safe systems of work.
  • Understanding of risk assessment processes.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Awareness of health, safety, and environmental requirements within a regulated environment.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Valid UK driving licence.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Radiation Safety Practice City and Guilds Stage 1.
  • National Vocational Qualification Level 2.
  • MASM 1 qualification or equivalent radiation protection certification.

Security Clearance:

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Eligibility may be affected by place of birth, nationality, citizenship, and residency.
