About the Role

This is a full-time, permanent position for an FPGA Engineer based in Ashton, Bristol, offering hybrid working arrangements. You will be a vital part of Babcock's rapidly evolving Cyber and Electromagnetic Activities (CEMA) domain, contributing to the development of advanced capabilities that help military and government organisations understand, protect, and operate within the modern electromagnetic environment.

You will work on technically demanding and nationally significant projects, contributing to the design and delivery of sophisticated software-defined and RF-enabled systems. This involves integrating technologies across sensing, communications, electronic warfare, data processing, and mission systems. As part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will develop cutting-edge solutions from concept through to deployment, applying modern open architectures, embedded technologies, and high-performance computing techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a team of engineers to design, build, test, and deploy embedded RF applications across the full life cycle.
  • Applications will require integration with an OpenCPI platform.
  • Conduct Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) design, including DSP elements.
  • Engage in test and verification activities.
  • Integrate with System-on-chip platforms.
  • Manage data exchange with services higher in the stack.

Essential Experience

  • Proven, recent FPGA development experience over multiple projects.
  • Experience in either VHDL or Verilog.
  • Experience working with embedded Linux or comparable operating systems.
  • Experience contributing to test, verification, and integration activities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical/computer engineering or equivalent relevant experience.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) / Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance for this role. Sole UK National required.
