About the Role

As a Welding QAQC Engineer at Babcock's Devonport Royal Dockyard site, you will play a vital role in ensuring the quality, integrity, and safety of critical welding activities that support the UK's most important defence programmes. You will help maintain the high standards required for submarine and surface ship maintenance and construction, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with regulations.

This exciting opportunity allows you to combine your welding and fabrication expertise with quality assurance and engineering best practices. You will collaborate with technical specialists, project teams, and customers, directly contributing to national security programmes while enhancing your professional capabilities within a world-class engineering organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Producing welding quality assurance documentation, Weld Information Sheets, and method statements for repair and emergent work activities.
  • Reviewing welding and non-destructive testing quality packs prior to final acceptance.
  • Conducting visual inspections before, during, and after welding activities to ensure compliance with quality requirements and standards.
  • Advising managers, project engineers, frontline teams, and customer representatives on welding methods, repairs, and quality-related matters.
  • Supporting the development of welding procedures, process improvements, and quality assurance initiatives across the business.

Experience and Qualifications

Essential experience includes:

  • Extensive practical welding and fabrication experience within a heavy engineering, marine, defence, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of welding processes, techniques, and associated quality requirements.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, welding joints, and welding symbols.
  • Experience creating welding documentation, including Weld Information Sheets and quality records.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and apply relevant welding standards and acceptance criteria.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Craft Apprenticeship, City & Guilds in Fabrication/Engineering Discipline, or equivalent.
  • CSWIP 3:1 in Visual Weld Inspection (training offered post-employment).
  • Radiation Worker and Confined Space entry qualifications (training offered post-employment).
  • NSQAC qualification (desirable).
  • Nuclear Plant Foundation qualification (training offered post-employment).

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National and able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
