About the Role
Airbus Helicopters is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer (f/h) specializing in Helicopter Maintenance Tooling to join the Ground Operations & Maintenance department at our Marignane, France facility. Your Missions
Helicopter maintenance operations are vital for Airbus customers. Optimizing maintenance workload is key to maximizing helicopter availability. This role within the Design Office, part of the Ground Operations & Maintenance department, is central to this objective.
You will be part of a department of approximately 70 employees, split between Marignane and our German site in Donauwörth. Your responsibilities will include the development of ground operations (helicopter transport by air/sea/road, deck operations, towing, parking, mooring, etc.) and the associated tooling design.
Ground Handling and Ground Support Equipment (GSE) are critical; their availability directly impacts helicopter delivery and operational readiness. You will thrive in an environment that can be urgent and high-pressure.
- Develop procedures and means for transporting helicopters by air, land, or sea.
- Develop procedures for helicopter operations on naval vessels.
- Develop ground support equipment (GSE) to enable customers to perform maintenance tasks on their helicopters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage multiple projects in parallel.
- Write technical specifications.
- Ensure the completeness of technical documents by aligning content with all stakeholders.
- Develop, define, and qualify all maintenance tooling through tests on helicopters or test benches, including associated maintenance tasks and Ground Handling procedures. Participate in qualification demonstrations (e.g., loading/unloading a helicopter onto an aircraft).
- Prepare and participate in helicopter modification committees.
- Capitalize on lessons learned.
- Validate equipment and procedures to minimize operator error risks, ensuring the proper functioning of GSE, utilizing virtual and augmented reality, and creating 3D printed models.
- Evaluate equipment in accordance with relevant safety laws and European regulations (EC).
You will interact with suppliers and potentially end-user representatives, collaborating with other teams within and outside the Design Office (Support & Services, Flight Test, Prototype, Production).
Your Profile:
- Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Proven experience in mechanical design.
- Proficiency in CATIA V5; preliminary dimensioning calculation skills are a plus.
- Reliable, autonomous, and organized.
- Demonstrated organization and a strong sense of responsibility for managing multiple development projects simultaneously.
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
- Sufficient English proficiency for negotiation is essential for an international project environment.
