Rolls-Royce Submarines is seeking an experienced Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer to join the Nuclear Facility Engineering (NFE) Team in Derby, United Kingdom. This is a full-time role with a minimum of 3 days on-site per week, contributing to the design, manufacture, supply, and support of nuclear propulsion systems for the Royal Navy's submarine fleet.
About the Role:
In this varied and rewarding position, you will manage EC&I aspects through the full engineering lifecycle, from design and modification to commissioning. You will collaborate with and lead suppliers to ensure timely project delivery. Your responsibilities will include ensuring EC&I designs and implementations meet functional and safety requirements for manufacturing assets, production, and experimental equipment, ensuring all outputs are safe, available, and capable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as an ‘Intelligent Customer’ for Instrumentation & Control aspects of facility design, directing work by Rolls-Royce and partners for new facilities and upgrades.
- Model control designs at the facility level based on user requirements, technical specifications, and FAT/SAT documentation.
- Define EC&I functional requirements, cascading safety inputs to ensure safety case compliance.
- Perform technical peer reviews of EC&I documents created by other engineers.
- Interpret machinery and plant drawings, electrical schematics, maintenance manuals, and parts catalogues to meet customer requirements.
Position Qualifications:
- Proven experience in managing projects through the full lifecycle (requirements, design, detailing, commissioning).
- Knowledge of Instrumentation and Control design, distribution systems, system design, Safety Case construction, and Nuclear Safety requirements.
- Experience with Programmable Industrial Control Systems (SCADA, DCS) and network protocols such as Profibus, Profinet, and ASI.
- Familiarity with safety-related control systems (BS 61508, 61511, 61513) and fault detection techniques.
- Understanding of design and safety principles for devices, nuclear safety, hardware logic, SIL systems, and Safety Classification.
- An Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation (EC&I), Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering degree, or equivalent qualification/experience.
- Must hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without caveats. Rolls-Royce will support clearance applications.
- Must be a UK national due to the nature of the business and protection of assets.
