Rheinmetall Weapon Munitions UK Limited (RWM UK) is establishing one of Europe's most modern production facilities in Telford for large calibre weapon systems – the "UK Gun Hall" project. As a wholly owned subsidiary of the Rheinmetall Group, RWM UK is seeking a motivated Tool Room Setter to join their team.
Position Overview
The Tool Room Setter will be responsible for the comprehensive management of tooling for large-calibre weapon systems. This includes assembly, storage, management, adjustments, and ordering of tools. Manufacturing operations utilize large CNC machines, such as lathes, deep-hole drilling machines, honing machines, and autofrettage machines, operating on a 3-shift pattern. Intensive on-site training will be provided.
What You Will Do
- Build and assemble tooling from engineering drawings, setup sheets, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Preset tooling using Zoller pre-setters and verify tool length, diameter, and offsets.
- Inspect tooling for wear, damage, and runout using precision measuring equipment.
- Maintain standard tooling assemblies and tool identification systems.
- Manage tooling inventory in KARDEX-Shuttles, including ordering, goods receipt, and stock accuracy.
- Maintain tooling records in SAP/Exapt and update tooling databases.
- Modify tooling by grinding, milling, or minor fitting as required.
- Support CNC operators during machine setup and first-off production runs.
- Troubleshoot tooling issues and propose improvements to enhance tool life and productivity.
- Collaborate closely with Work Preparation, Maintenance, and Production teams to support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and 5S.
- Comply with all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality requirements.
What Qualifications You Should Have
- Experience as a CNC Operator with knowledge of CNC machines (turning/milling technology), or as a Tool Mechanic, or a similar role.
- Professional experience in assembling and measuring tools, preferably with Zoller equipment.
- Ability to read and understand specifications, technical drawings, work instructions, and test procedures.
- Proficiency in working with various IT systems such as Exapt, Zoller, and SAP, along with knowledge of standard office applications.
- Understanding of cutting tool geometry, feeds, and speeds.
- Willingness to work in a multi-shift pattern.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as part of a team, or individually.
- Motivated and disciplined with a strong work ethic, technical aptitude, a continuous improvement mindset, and excellent attention to detail.
- Enthusiasm for setting up a new production facility for large calibre weapons systems in the UK (Telford).
