BAE Systems is seeking a Chief Engineer (Safety Critical Controls) to be based at our Rochester, Kent site, working onsite. This senior technical role offers the opportunity to influence the future direction of the business and shape the certification of our products.
Reporting to the Deputy Engineering Director and working in close alignment with the Head of Engineering, you will provide domain expertise across the entire lifecycle of safety-critical control products. You will offer proactive support and coaching to the Product Group from pre-bid through to production and support phases.
Core Duties:
- Provide technical governance and assurance through Product Safety Certificate (PSC) authorisation and Design Approval for agreed programmes.
- Drive technical excellence within the Product Group by managing product knowledge and know-how, and contributing to the evolution of Engineering processes.
- Collaborate with the Head of Engineering and Product Line Director to define, agree, and implement product and technology strategies.
- Maintain a strong understanding of relevant technology trends, developments, and roadmaps within the safety-critical controls domain.
- Build and sustain effective relationships with strategic technology partners, customers, and industry working groups.
- Work with project teams to ensure an efficient and viable route to product certification.
- Support development programmes through proactive coaching, promotion of sound engineering practices, and consideration of cost and schedule impacts.
Essential Skills:
- Deep technical understanding of safety-critical control products and related technologies, with the ability to review related disciplines.
- Pragmatic application of sound Engineering principles to support business objectives.
- Proven experience in the certification of Safety Critical Systems.
- Demonstrated experience in coaching numerous Engineers throughout their career journeys.
- Previous experience holding a Design Authority or equivalent role throughout the development lifecycle.
- Qualification to Degree/HND level in an engineering-related discipline.
